A company in the Liquid Intelligent Technologies group , has announced plans to build a 10MW facility in

Nigeria ’ s largest city , Lagos .
The company , which already operates data centres in South Africa and Kenya , said construction on the new facility has already started .
The Nigerian data centre will form Africa Data Centres ’ west African hub , the company has said . It will add to its network of data centres in Johannesburg , Cape Town , Nairobi , Harare and Kigali .
Stephane Duproz , CEO , Africa Data Centres
Stephane Duproz , CEO , Africa Data Centres , said its clients , including so-called ‘ hyperscale ’ cloud computing providers , have expressed their interest in utilising a data centre facility in Nigeria .
Africa Data Centres ’ Nigerian market plans come after the company last year acquired Standard Bank ’ s data centre in Samrand , north of Johannesburg . The data centre specialist is also expanding its nearby facility in Midrand .
Duproz said the Lagos build will help spur the Nigerian economy . “ The stimulus effect to the economy of digitisation is well documented and Nigeria is ready for this technology boon . Furthermore , our construction policy is to uplift the community as far as possible , employing local contractors and creating work opportunities within the communities we enter – so the job creation opportunities are realised at both grassroots and hi-tech levels .”
Africa Data Centres will use grey ( nonpotable ) water for cooling in the Lagos data centre . It will also use solar energy to offset its reliance on the grid given that Nigeria ’ s electricity supply is unreliable .

he Raxio Group , a premier

T pan-African data centre developer and operator , and

Meridiam , a global developer , asset and fund manager specialising in sustainable infrastructure and energy transition projects , have announced a partnership to deploy a network of data centres across the African continent .
Under this agreement , Meridiam will invest US $ 48 million to support the continued deployment of data centres in Africa , where both Raxio and Meridiam already have strong local presence . Meridiam ’ s investment is made alongside Raxio ’ s founding equity partner , Roha Group , which established Raxio in 2018 and has been funding the company since inception .
With the rise of connectivity on the African continent , Raxio ’ s facilities are built to boost Digital Transformation , economic growth and job creation , while using state-of-the-art design and technologies to minimise the impact on the environment . From the design phase , equipment choices are adapted to the local environmental and climatic conditions with a view to continuously reduce energy consumption . Raxio is also actively working on connecting its facilities to local renewable generation capabilities such as solar power , in addition to the hydropower sources it is currently using .
Robert Mullins , CEO of Raxio Group , said : “ Customers are core to the design process to ensure our facilities are efficient , sustainable and cost-effective .
“ With its extensive knowledge in the development of sustainable infrastructure in the region , we are convinced Meridiam is the partner of choice for us to continue our deployment plans and reach our targets .” www . intelligentdatacentres . com
