Leviton increases fibre network support for global data centres
NEWS
L eviton has announced it has consolidated all of its plenum data centre fibre cable manufacturing to its Fuquay-Varina , North Carolina facility .
Leviton offers an extensive line of data centre and enterprise fibre trunks , including Opt-X Unity ultra-low loss , Opt-X Enterprise DC low loss and plug-n-play standard loss options .
This insourcing capability is made possible by its September 2020 acquisition of US cable manufacturer , Berk-Tek , and makes Leviton a fully integrated company that manufactures its own fibre cable , connectors , connectivity hardware and cable assemblies .
In addition to this wide selection of data centre cable and preterminated assemblies , Leviton offers extensive connectivity systems , design and planning assistance and localised customer service around the world .
This move offers hyperscale , cloud or enterprise data centre managers more options , faster response times and more cost effectiveness as they deploy , update or expand their networks .
“ Integrating our own plenum-rated fibre cable into our preterminated fibre cable assemblies is a key step following the acquisition of Berk-Tek ,” said Dave Mullen , Senior Product Manager for Leviton Network Solutions . “ It helps us further optimise our service and logistics to provide data centre assemblies quickly and cost-effectively . Also , by directly controlling both the manufacturing of the fibre cable and the fibre cable assemblies , Leviton is now able to increase its capacity and further expand its product line , making what is often times a custom configuration for some manufacturers , a standard offering for Leviton .”
Scala Data Centres invests in sustainability with Furukawa ’ s Green IT Program
cala Data Centres , part of the
S Digital Colony Group , has demonstrated its commitment to
environmental issues with its support for the Furukawa ’ s Green IT Program .
This aims to contribute to the proper disposal of communication and energy cables , in order to preserve the environment and reduce the use of nonrenewable resources .
Stefan Potje , Data Centre Manager , Scala , said : “ We have an area in the company focused on environmental , social and corporate governance and , recently , we have become the first data centre company in Latin America to migrate energy consumption entirely to renewable sources .”
Potje says that Scala currently has two data centres in operation and two others under construction , all in the metropolitan region of São Paulo , in addition to expansion projects in the state itself and in other countries in Latin America .
Using the Green IT Program , 2,437 kg of material was recycled from the company ’ s two data centres .
This volume represents 1,219 kg of materials contaminated with heavy metals that were saved from being dumped in industrial landfills and released into the environment .
In addition , the recycling of the collected material led to a reduction in the extraction of copper and , also , a saving in energy consumption sufficient to supply 155 homes for one month . www . intelligentdatacentres . com
