What do you currently identify as the major areas of investment in your industry ?
Cybersecurity is a hot area currently . The pandemic brought out the best of humanity , but simultaneously the worst . We ’ ve seen criminals use technology to exploit vulnerable people and to take advantage of the disarray . The rise in ransomware has been epic . So many firms are completely unprepared , and subsequently , pay the ransom to get their data back . While the ransoms are being paid , the bad actors become better financed , become more sophisticated and the cycle continues . We don ’ t believe any company should have to be in a position to pay the ransom .
What are the region-specific challenges you encounter in your role ?
The cultural approach to technology is very different throughout Europe , the Middle East and Africa . There are countries that are on the leading edge and you have countries that are much more conservative in their adoption of technology . You can ’ t have a onesize-fits-all approach to the region , which adds a lot of complexity to your go-to-market strategies .
THE INTERNET WAS JUST BECOMING MAINSTREAM AT THE END OF THE ’ 90S AND I COULD SEE THAT WAS THE FUTURE .
What changes to your job role have you seen in the last year and how do you see these developing in the coming months ?
Winston Churchill said : ‘ To improve is to change , to be perfect is to change often ’.
We thrive on change at Rubrik . The biggest challenge I ’ ve seen in the last year or so is the massive increase in ransomware . There are so many organisations that have invested millions in technology to protect them , but all too often things get through .
A lot of these tools are extremely good but given the amount of investment going into cybercrime , nothing is infallible . When that happens , then what ? How far did it spread ?
