Our Editor takes a look at this month ’ s biggest talking point for data centre leaders .
WEATHERING THE STORM : TACKLING THE CLIMATE CRISIS
A s the weather hots up , so do the conversations surrounding temperature control both inside and outside the data centre .
It appears that more and more companies are piggybacking off the Nordic region ’ s climate to improve their data centre operations – and understandably so .
With its cool and stable climate and considering the severe weather conditions that the Europe region in particular is facing , the Nordic countries are a ‘ hotspot ’ for the location of new facilities .
I think we can expect this trend to be a key player in the shaping and development of the industry for years to come .
Data centre managers are being urged to act now to prepare for the expected worsening climate conditions and avoid detrimental impact and downtime of their facilities .
Extreme temperatures , expected to continue for the foreseeable , place pressure on the grid – something industry players are working tirelessly to alleviate – most evident in the fires which are taking place currently across Europe .
It ’ s interesting to witness some of the innovative ways that heat output is being recycled – a recent example of this was when Deep Green , a British startup , announced the launch of a UK-first technology that supplies free heat to local businesses and public swimming pools , reducing their energy bills and cutting their reliance on carbonintensive fossil fuel boilers .
