NEWS Nordic enterprises seek Digital Transformation from data centre and cloud vendors nterprises in the Nordic countries are investing in Digital Transformation and looking for vendors to help them with their move to the cloud and adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for operations, according to a new report published by Information Services Group (ISG), a leading global technology research and advisory firm. E The 2019 ISG Provider Lens Private/ Hybrid Cloud – Data Center Services and Solutions Report for the Nordics finds many Nordic enterprises turning to IT outsourcing as a way to cut costs, expand their businesses globally and gain access to technology experts with niche skills. “As Nordic enterprises transform their businesses to raise their profiles in the global market, Digital Transformation and cloud and data centre outsourcing have become their key priorities,” said Barry Matthews, Partner and Head of ISG Northern Europe, which includes the Nordics. In some cases, however, Nordic businesses are struggling to see quick returns on investment when they move to a cloud computing model, the report reveals. While cloud computing can eliminate or minimise hardware infrastructure, some enterprises need outside expertise to help them plan and capitalise their cloud investments. Many Nordic enterprises are turning to providers to help them roll out AI for IT operations (AIOps) to automate commoditised IT infrastructure and software maintenance and to reduce labour-intensive intervention for mundane tasks. DataStax announces results of survey on IT architecture modernisation trends ataStax, a company behind a leading database built on Apache Cassandra, has announced results from an IT Architecture Modernization Trends survey, showing that 99% of IT execs report challenges with architecture modernisation and 98% report challenges with their corporate data architectures (data silos). D Vendor lock-in (95%) was of particular concern among respondents. The survey, conducted in conjunction with Dimensional Research and DataStax, investigates current experiences and plans to reduce complexity and cost around architecture modernisation. Respondents included more than 300 executives who work for companies of more than 5,000 employees. The resulting report provided a number of key insights, including: 12 Issue 06 Architecture modernisation is both necessary and hard: 100% of respondents are modernising their technology architecture with the goals of reducing costs, improving customer and employee satisfaction, and gaining data-driven insights. However, 99% report challenges with architecture modernisation and no standards exist for funding new application development. Cloud flexibility is key: A total of 85% of respondents have cloud initiatives as part of modernisation efforts, 72% are moving to a hybrid or multi-cloud infrastructure, more than half of all new application architectures will support hybrid or multi-cloud environments and 95% have concerns about vendor lock-in.
