NEW INITIATIVE FROM HUBER + SUHNER SWITCHES TO ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY PACKAGING FOR FIBRE OPTIC CABLE ASSEMBLIES
The number of single-use plastic bags utilised will fall by 2.2 million per year , thanks to a new initiative from HUBER + SUHNER . This project is a contribution to the company ’ s commitment to environmental responsibility through a 50 % reduction in packaging emissions for indoor fibre optic cable assemblies ( calculated according to ISO 14040 , based on supplier data ).
Reaffirming the company ’ s commitment to a sustainable future and reducing resource consumption , HUBER + SUHNER will use 100 % recyclable , FSC-certified paper packaging for its entire range of indoor fibre optic cable assemblies .
The indoor fibre optic cable assemblies will be packaged in 100 % recyclable , FSC-certified paper that includes the bags , cable ties and box tape .
For customers , the paper packaging will be easier and faster to open , saving crucial time during installation . As the paper covers and cable ties weigh less than the plastic previously used , less resources are consumed and costs relating to transport and disposal will also be reduced .
The new packaging is also 100 % dust-free , mitigating the risk of potential contamination . This is important in data centres where indoor fibre optic cable assemblies are often deployed . If the packaging of these solutions generates dust , it can affect key components of the installation process as well as negatively affect operational performance .
Northern Data Group ’ s cutting-edge colocation provider ,
Ardent Data Centers , has announced it has broken ground on construction at its Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania data centre site , following its acquisition in January 2024 .
The site is being retrofitted into a cutting-edge , high-density data centre environment , purpose-built to power the next generation of High-Performance Computing .
With the engineering review complete , the upgrade of the 7.5- acre site has begun ; retrofitting the 41,000 square-foot building with the latest liquid cooling technology to allow for additional power and maximised energy capacity . and wind sources . This is aligned to Ardent Data Center ’ s longterm strategy as it continues to pioneer efficient data centre environments that give data-intensive organisations optimised performance and availability in the most sustainable way .
This site will be the latest advancement of Northern Data Group ’ s strategy to expand Ardent Data Center ’ s global footprint and bring high-density , liquid cooled solutions to the market , providing colocation services for compute power across the US and Europe .
Pittsburgh is strategically located with access to the entire Eastern Seaboard , with under 10ms latency to major US eastern hubs .
The upgrade is due to complete by Q4 2024 . The site will have an immediate capacity of 5MW , with plans to upgrade to 20MW in the future .
Pittsburgh is a favourable location to support Ardent Data Center ’ s expansion , with supportive local stakeholders . It also has access to an abundance of clean energy from hydroelectric
