W elcome to the latest edition of Intelligent Data Centres . As the weather heats up in the Northern Hemisphere , so do the conversations about AI , demand and developments , as well as power .

On the cover this month is Matt Peterson , President of San Francisco Metropolitan Internet Exchange ( SFMIX ). A recent partnership between Bandwidth IG and SFMIX will deliver high-capacity dark fibre to Internet Service Providers ( ISPs ) and content delivery networks across the San Francisco Bay Area , allowing them to connect to their customers with unmatched speed and performance .
“ We ’ ve watched Bandwidth IG grow from offering dark fibre to more parts of the San Francisco Bay Area ,” added Peterson . “ We appreciated their team ’ s commitment to serving more corners of the market , as well as their team ’ s knowledge of our business .
“ This level of near-ubiquitous coverage assists with SFMIX ’ s resilience . Not all providers have such a developed footprint ; those that do have the coverage , tend to have limited capacity ,” Peterson said . “ With Bandwidth IG , we found a partner that has the coverage and available capacity to serve our current and future needs .”
technologies , such as AI , Machine Learning ( ML ) and the Internet of Things ( IoT ), are increasing demand , which is likely to continue outstripping supply for the next three to five years .
“ These and other factors , including the race to decarbonisation and a shortage of power , are shaping the future of the data centre industry , with several of the trends interlinked .”
On pages 31 – 34 , in this month ’ s Editor ’ s Question , we ask industry experts how they envision the future evolution of AI technologies impacting data centre design . As we find AI oozing itself into every crevice of data centre operations , these conversations are only scratching the surface as the technology and implementations continue to escalate . We hear from experts at Manage Engine , Soben , BCS and Vertiv .
Don ’ t forget you can read daily news updates on our website . I ’ d like to wish you a good month ahead and please enjoy the read !
