Intelligent Data Centres . October is one of our favourite months at Lynchpin Media . Despite being the most hectic out of the 12 , it ’ s also one where we love to be out and about to discuss the biggest talking points in the industry and meet readers , vendors and experts face-to-face . We took our largest group yet to GITEX Global 2024 and our second Intelligent ICT Awards Middle East was magical . We always look forward to connecting with industry leaders , innovators and partners who are influencing the future .
A huge thank you to everyone who visited our stand , participated in interviews , contributed to roundtables and engaged in insightful discussions . We can ’ t wait to do it all again next year .
On the cover this month is Olivier Tardy , Head of Infrastructure and Operations , Andra , who shares how Pure Storage empowered Andra to cut its data centre footprint by 80 %. The French National Agency for Radioactive Waste Management wanted to modernise its IT infrastructure with a secure , reliable and resilient data storage platform that fulfils sustainability regulations and requirements .
“ We wanted to counter misconceptions about the environmental impact of nuclear waste management and focus on being an environmentally conscious agency . This meant we had to evaluate the carbon footprint of our entire IT stack , including storage ,” Tardy said .
“ Our physical data centre footprint also scaled back appreciably – from 30U to just 3U . This reduction translates directly into lower energy consumption and cooling needs , further decreasing our carbon footprint . In total , Pure ’ s platform has helped cut our CO 2 emissions by four tons per year .”

Our features this month range from breaking down the factors within data centre design ( p37 ), analysing the downtime dilemma ( p46 ), getting insights into data centre connectivity in the shadow of Shannon ( p68 ) and what to consider for cooling in a shifting landscape ( p74 ) – among much , much more !
Graeme Hughes , Digital Engineering Partner , EY Financial Services Technology Consulting , sets the scene in this month ’ s Editor ’ s Question ( p31 ) on how data centres can balance operational resilience with the demand for sustainability and the key innovations which will drive this . We hear from experts at Shawton Energy , Northern Data Group and B & W Engineering .
Don ’ t forget you can read daily news updates on our website . I ’ d like to wish you a good month ahead and please enjoy the read !
