EQUINIX AND OMANTEL OPEN CARRIER- NEUTRAL DATA CENTRE IN OMAN
Equinix has officially opened its new data centre in Salalah ,
Oman , establishing a significant new interconnectivity hub that will transform global data flows .
Located in the coastal city of Salalah , the new data centre – SN1 – is built in cooperation with Omantel , a regional leading telecom and technology provider in the Middle East . The facility is commercially and operationally managed in full by Equinix as a carrier-neutral and open-access Equinix International Business Exchange ( IBX ) data centre .
The facility is the second carrier-neutral data centre built in Oman , following the success of MC1 in Muscat , and Equinix ’ s sixth facility in the Middle East , complementing its existing operations in Dubai and Abu Dhabi .
SN1 ’ s unique location in Salalah optimises the routes of several highly strategic connections and offers more direct and costeffective reachability for businesses and service providers across four continents .
It will also significantly reshape traffic flows across the Middle East and beyond , reducing latency and improving the resilience of global networks . The facility will also feature direct fibre
connectivity to Equinix ’ s MC1 data centre in Muscat , providing carriers , hyperscalers , content providers and cloud service providers the ability to colocate their critical infrastructure and further enhance regional operations . stc , a leading digital enabler across Saudi Arabia and the wider region , has announced the inauguration of two highly strategic technological projects that will pave the way for innovation and growth in Bahrain ’ s digital economy while cementing its position as a regional digital hub .
Developed by stc Group ’ s subsidiaries – stc Bahrain and center3 – with a US $ 300 million investment , the projects align with the company ’ s ambitious strategy to expand its international footprint , leveraging advanced technology and innovative solutions .
They will be instrumental in advancing Digital Transformation and global connectivity in Bahrain and the region , empowering key business sectors . onward to Africa and Europe , spans 45,000 km and offers an impressive capacity of 180 terabits per second .
Meanwhile , the Data Center Park , currently under construction on 55,000 square metres in Al Qurain area , is specifically designed to meet the needs of content providers and global enterprises that require high computing power .
Set to scale up to 60MW of IT load , this energy-efficient facility supports Bahrain ’ s Vision 2030 , aiming to diversify the economy and strengthen the ICT sector . The Data Center Park also aligns with Bahrain ’ s commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2060 through innovative renewable energy technology .
