HIGH-PERFORMANCE COMPUTING WILL REQUIRE RAPID INNOVATION IN DATA CENTRE DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY TO MANAGE RISING POWER DENSITY NEEDS .

Storage innovation will be key to tackling the data centre crunch and protecting the planet . As the data boom continues unabated , it will eventually reach the point where data centres will become overwhelmed . However , financial , regulatory and environmental concerns will increasingly challenge the need for greater physical data centre space and capacity . According to the UK ’ s National Grid , for example , power demand from data will increase six-fold just within the next 10 years .
To reference CBRE , AI advancements are projected to significantly drive future data centre demand , and High- Performance Computing will require rapid innovation in data centre design and technology to manage rising power density needs . However , it ’ s not just innovation in computing that can help address these issues .
Higher areal density hard drives , which expand the amount of data stored on a given unit of storage media , can enable greater data capacity in data centres , avoiding the need to build new sites , driving significant TCO savings and reducing environmental impact .
