AI : THE ANSWER TO THE DATA CENTRE SKILLS SHORTAGE ?

hen we think of AI , we

W think of opportunity – or at least some do . Many people are apprehensive about AI but what they may not realise is just how long this technology has existed – thought to have come to fruition in the mid-1900s .

Humans are becoming more aware of its capabilities and its ability to supercharge business processes and replace laborious tasks to create workflow efficiencies . In the healthcare sector , for example , AI has been welcomed with open arms . According to a government press release , AI has been hugely successful when diagnosing breast cancer quicker and discharging people from hospital quicker . This type of technological innovation is prolonging human life and providing benefits that will influence the future of healthcare .
However , the introduction of AI in data centres – an industry already struggling with a skills shortage – is controversial . Despite it being responsible for managing mundane tasks like data handling , there are still those that question whether AI is replacing the need for human labour and thereby replacing humans . On the one hand , the industry is making strides in its attempts to appeal to a wider audience – particularly the younger generation and women – whilst all the while filling these roles with robots .
Despite concerns , the efficiencies AI provides are second to none and many would argue it ’ s simply a tool to enhance rather than replace . This is the stance the UK Government has taken as it announced its plans in a recent press release , to transform the lives of its working people .
The government is challenging the opinion of AI taking the place of humans by creating more jobs and investment opportunities in the UK . Data centre organisations – such as Vantage Data Centres , Nscale and Kyndryl – are getting on board with the plans by investing in building the AI infrastructure the UK needs to harness the potential of this technology and increase the number of job opportunities .
According to the UK Government , the plans build on recent progress in AI that saw £ 25 billion of new investment in data centres announced since the government took office last July .
These types of investments could mean the UK is on its way to becoming a global AI data hub which will influence digital innovation for years to come .
With AI opening up a world of opportunity , it sounds like we may have finally found the answer to the data centre skills shortage , arguably .
