CASTROL AND SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC LAUNCH SHANGHAI LIQUID COOLING LAB FOR DATA CENTRES

Oil and lubricant giant Castrol and energy management specialist Schneider Electric have opened a new colaboratory in Shanghai dedicated to advancing liquid cooling technologies for data centres.

The initiative follows a strategic partnership agreement between the two companies and the co-laboratory will serve as a hub for developing benchmark liquid cooling projects aimed at future data centre deployments.
It will also function as a jointly branded demonstration centre for customers, showcasing significant advancements in liquid cooling technology to the wider data centre industry.
Castrol and Schneider Electric will collaborate on in-depth product development and projects designed to tackle practical technical challenges encountered by data centre operators. Challenges include ensuring compatibility between cooling liquids and IT equipment and improving overall heat dissipation efficiency.
Castrol’ s high-performance cooling liquids will be integrated with Schneider Electric’ s comprehensive data centre solutions.

UK edge infrastructure provider Pulsant is set to acquire two data centres from the European technology firm SCC in a move to bolster its national network.

The integration will include infrastructure components such as the Cooling Distribution Unit( CDU), power supplies, server racks and intelligent power distribution equipment.
Peter Huang, Vice President, Thermal Management at Castrol, said:“ In the era of AI, the construction of liquid cooling infrastructure in data centres is developing rapidly. Through Castrol’ s strategic partnership with Schneider Electric, we will jointly provide end-to-end solutions for the construction, operation and maintenance of data centres, ranging from the hardware in server rooms to liquid cooling fluids.”
The deal includes SCC’ s facilities in Birmingham and Fareham, along with their colocation clients, ensuring stability for both customers and the data centres themselves.
The investment will expand Pulsant’ s platformEDGE infrastructure and increase its UK data centre network to twelve locations. The Birmingham site, located centrally, offers around 2 MW of power with expansion potential. The Fareham facility is a modern, carrier-neutral site with a 3 MW power capacity. Both locations provide 25,000 sq ft of data centre space.

In addition to the acquisition, Pulsant and SCC will form a strategic partnership for colocation services across the UK, granting SCC clients access to Pulsant’ s national network. Pulsant has a track record of integrating regional data centres, and the acquisition strengthens its position in the UK market. The deal is expected to complete in April 2025, with data centre staff transferring to Pulsant.
PULSANT EXPANDS UK DATA CENTRE FOOTPRINT WITH SCC ACQUISITION
Rob Coupland, CEO of Pulsant, said:“ With the addition of two new data centres, we’ ve expanded our UK coverage, strengthening our presence near key economic hubs that have traditionally been underserved in terms of digital infrastructure – particularly Birmingham, the UK’ s second city. This will enable more businesses to benefit from Pulsant’ s unique network of data centres and platformEDGE to reach new markets and grow their organisations.”
