ATLASEDGE PARTNERS WITH AFR-IX TELECOM TO BOOST CONNECTIVITY FOR BARCELONA CUSTOMERS

AtlasEdge, a leading European data centre provider, has announced the signing of an agreement with AFR-IX Telecom, an infrastructure and licensed telecommunication operator, to provide a new Point of Presence( POP) that will connect AtlasEdge’ s Barcelona BCN001 ° data centre with the AFR-IX Telecom-owned Barcelona Cable Landing Station( CLS).

Connected to multiple international submarine cables, the Barcelona CLS serves as a key hub between the Mediterranean basin and the Atlantic. Integration with the hub via this new POP will see BCN001 ° become a critical node in the connectivity ecosystem.
The partnership will provide high-bandwidth and low-latency connectivity, crucial for data-intensive applications and services, and significantly enhance the resilience and redundancy of AtlasEdge’ s network, ensuring continuous service even in case of route failures.
The collaboration also opens new routes for AtlasEdge’ s customers with subsea connectivity to key hubs in the Mediterranean Sea, including direct connectivity to Marseille.
In addition to its Barcelona BCN001 and Madrid MAD001 sites, AtlasEdge is developing a second Barcelona data centre and a 100 % renewable data centre campus in Lisbon. The latter is part of an ambitious growth strategy that will see the company invest more than € 500 million in Portugal.
“ This partnership with AFR-IX Telecom significantly boosts the digital infrastructure and connectivity options in the region, making our Barcelona data centre a pivotal and strategically important player in the Mediterranean connectivity landscape,” said Paul Wiltshire, Interim Senior Vice President of Sales at AtlasEdge.

One of the six proposed sites, a 15-megawatt development, has already secured committed capacity from the local utility provider. The remaining projects are currently progressing through feasibility studies with the respective utility companies.
“ As we continue to develop solar and battery energy storage sites, we believe that work will complement our data centre projects and vice versa,” said Jeffrey Clay, Co‐founder of Belltown Power Texas.
“ Our deep knowledge of the ERCOT grid paired with our North Texas development expertise gives us a significant advantage in selecting prime locations for quick interconnection and reliable power supply, allowing us to deliver high-quality, efficient data centre solutions.”
