iGenius launches Colosseum – a major sovereign AI data centre with Vertiv and NVIDIA
Vertiv, a global provider of critical digital infrastructure, has announced a collaboration with NVIDIA and AI company iGenius to deploy Colosseum, a large NVIDIA DGX AI supercomputer featuring NVIDIA Grace Blackwell Superchips. and adaptability for global AI factories,” said Charlie Boyle, Vice President of DGX platforms at NVIDIA.
Colosseum, planned for deployment in Italy in 2025, is described as a first-of-itskind sovereign AI data centre designed for regulated workloads.
iGenius states that Colosseum will support the enterprise-grade deployment of sovereign AI compute. The project aims to combine computational power, energy efficiency and data sovereignty, while adhering to stringent data security requirements.
Colosseum, based on the NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD architecture, represents the latest development in the collaboration between Vertiv and NVIDIA. Its location in southern Italy is intended to meet regional government requirements and is considered a significant development in Europe’ s AI infrastructure.
Collaborative compute strategy
The design of Colosseum incorporates Vertiv’ s infrastructure management expertise, NVIDIA accelerated computing, and the NVIDIA Omniverse Blueprint for AI factory design and operations. The deployment will harness Vertiv’ s 360AI reference architecture infrastructure platform for data centre power and cooling, designed for the NVIDIA GB200 NVL72, which was co-developed with NVIDIA and released in late 2024.
“ AI is reshaping the data centre landscape, demanding new levels of scale, efficiency
“ With physically-based digital twins enabled by NVIDIA Omniverse technologies and Vertiv’ s modular design for the iGenius DGX SuperPOD data centre, Colosseum sets a new standard for building supercomputers for the era of AI.”
The modular, scalable system, according to Vertiv, will enable iGenius to deploy a very fast hyperscale AI supercomputer and one of the largest designed to support sovereign AI.
“ Harnessing the power of NVIDIA’ s cutting-edge accelerated computing and Vertiv’ s innovative infrastructure expertise, Colosseum stands as a testament to the transformative potential of sovereign AI,” said Uljan Sharka, CEO of iGenius.
“ We’ re demonstrating how modular systems and software-specific infrastructure enable a new era of mission-critical AI.”
INTELLIGENT INFRASTRUCTURE
Vertiv has also expanded its reference design library on its AI Hub with the co-developed data centre power and cooling design for NVIDIA GB300 NVL72. The company states that by staying one GPU generation ahead, it enables customers to plan infrastructure before new hardware is released, providing deployment-ready designs for increased rack power densities and scalable templates for AI factories.
“ The unit of compute is no longer the chip – it’ s the system, the AI Factory,” said Karsten Winther, President of Vertiv, EMEA.
“ Through our collaboration with NVIDIA and visionary AI player iGenius, we are proving the efficiency and systemlevel maturity of delivering the data centre as a unit of compute, unlocking rapid adoption of AI-native power and cooling infrastructure as a catalyst for AI at scale.”
