URBANCHAIN DELIVERS LIVE, INFRASTRUCTURE-GRADE RENEWABLE ENERGY FOR MAJOR UK DATA CENTRE

UrbanChain has gone live on a three-year agreement supplying 40 GWh of renewable electricity annually to a major data centre in Greater London, supporting large-scale enterprise, AI and high-performance computing workloads.

The £ 20 million agreement reflects how energy-intensive digital infrastructure is responding to rising AI-driven load, heightened carbon scrutiny and increasing exposure to wholesale power price volatility. The site is owned by global infrastructure investors and forms part of a wider UK portfolio delivering critical digital services.
Unlike conventional power contracts that rely primarily on unlinked certificates to assert‘ 100 % renewable’ supply, UrbanChain directly matches electricity demand with renewable generation wherever possible, using certificates only where required to ensure continuity. This enables live, traceable delivery with clear visibility over where and when power is produced, providing infrastructure-grade cost certainty and carbon integrity for always-on operations.
UrbanChain Chief Growth Officer, Charlie Parry, said:“ This project shows what infrastructure-grade clean energy looks like in practice. Data centres are now constrained as much by energy as by real estate or connectivity. We are delivering live, traceable renewable power at scale, aligned to the realities of 24 / 7 digital demand.”
The project has been delivered in partnership with Zendo Energy, whose Energy OS supports forecasting and optimisation across the facility, helping operators manage higher utilisation levels and increasingly variable load profiles.

Vertiv, a global leader in critical digital infrastructure, has announced the launch of Vertiv Next Predict, an AI-powered managed service that transforms data centre maintenance.

Moving beyond traditional time-based and reactive models, the service industrialises operations by analysing asset behaviour before risks materialise. Vertiv Next Predict is the latest advancement in Vertiv’ s integrated AI infrastructure portfolio, designed to deliver predictive intelligence across power, cooling and IT systems, creating a unified, resilient foundation for AI-driven data centres.
As AI workloads reshape the data centre landscape, facilities require improved visibility and control across critical infrastructure to maintain operational continuity and performance at scale. Implementing advanced analytics and predictive maintenance strategies helps organisations address these challenges and maintain consistent performance across distributed environments.
the Global Services Business Unit, Vertiv.“ Vertiv Next Predict helps data centres unlock uptime, shifting maintenance from traditional calendar-based routines to a proactive, data-driven strategy. We move from assumptions to informed decisions, by continuously monitoring equipment condition and enabling risk mitigation before potential impacts to operations.”
Vertiv Next Predict leverages AI-based anomaly detection to continuously analyse operating conditions and identify deviations from expected behaviours at an early stage, alongside a predictive algorithm that assesses potential operational impact to determine risk and prioritise response.
“ Data centre operators need innovative technologies to stay ahead of potential risks, as compute intensity rises and infrastructures evolve,” said Ryan Jarvis, Vice President of
