EDITOR’ S LETTER

ALIX PRESSLEY, EDITOR
’ d like to begin by reintroducing myself as I

I step back into the role of Editor at Intelligent Data Centres. It feels like the perfect time to return, as the industry continues to accelerate at an extraordinary pace – largely driven by the rapid evolution of AI.

This issue features Winvic Construction’ s Danny Cross, Director and Head of Data Centre Delivery, on the cover. Speaking with Danny provided valuable insight into why the company has chosen this moment to expand into the data centre sector, leveraging its expertise in the design and delivery of both private and public sector construction and civil engineering projects.
Danny explains how this strategic move builds on Winvic’ s existing strengths, while also exploring how growing data centre demand is reshaping traditional construction practices – and how the company is adapting in response. You can read the full story on page 14.
Our Talking Point feature on page 19 highlights a report commissioned by Rider Levett Bucknall( RLB), which suggests the data centre market is at the start of a new infrastructure cycle. With infrastructure modernisation dominating industry conversations, this insight feels particularly timely. Based on feedback from more than 700 senior decision-makers across the UK and European data centre ecosystem, the report argues that future success will depend less on demand and more on the ability to deliver at scale.
On page 23, we explore the engineering of rack-level infrastructure for high-performance environments. Calvin Nicholson, Senior Director of Product Management at Legrand, examines how infrastructure strategies are evolving to meet the needs of next-generation workloads. He discusses AI’ s impact on traditional rack designs, the ongoing evaluation of AC versus
DC power distribution and how organisations are preparing for future high-voltage deployments.
From a more technical perspective, Brandon Smith, VP of Global Sales and Product at ZincFive, explores how nickelzinc technology is emerging as a safer, more sustainable and high-performance alternative to traditional lead-acid and Lithium-Ion battery systems. He highlights its potential as a compact, safe and future-ready immediate power solution for the next generation of data centres. You can find this feature on page 35.
