Secure remote monitoring gives heart patients a second chance at life
In the rapidly growing connected medical device market, technology directly impacts human lives; safety, data security and reliability are non-negotiable. Against this backdrop, Orange Business and MicroPort CardioFlow have further strengthened their long-term partnership for another five years to advance patient-centred digital health built on trust, resilience and uncompromising performance.
The connected medical device sector is projected to grow from US $ 87.17 billion this year to a staggering US $ 173.26 billion by 2031. This trend is fuelled by an ageing population, expanding care-anywhere models and a shift toward precision medicine and individualised care. Through more than a decade of collaboration, Orange Business has supported MicroPort CardioFlow in expanding its global user base by approximately 20 % year-on-year.
MicroPort CardioFlow’ s digital solution transmits clinical health data from implanted cardiac devices to healthcare professionals( HCPs) for monitoring and analysis. By leveraging strong e-health and integration capabilities, Orange Business provides the digital backbone for MicroPort CardioFlow’ s remote cardiac monitoring system. Specifically, it provides a secure, scalable IoT platform and connectivity with data hosted in compliant data centres.
The Orange Business platform enables patient data and alert messages from MicroPort CardioFlow’ s cardiac rhythm management( CRM) implantable devices, such as pacemakers, to be securely accessible by clinicians via a remote monitoring solution.
By leveraging the Orange global presence, MicroPort CardioFlow’ s customers can trust that their data is handled securely and always transmitted with absolute integrity. The scalability and global reach of the Orange network also align with MicroPort CardioFlow’ s global footprint.
Orange Business currently secures the data journey for MicroPort CardioFlow’ s SmartView ecosystem, protecting sensitive data and ensuring accurate, trustworthy data transmission for safe and effective clinical decisions. Orange Cyberdefense, the expert cybersecurity unit within Orange, provides penetration testing and security reports to make sure the environment is fully secured at all times.
The implanted device continually monitors the patient’ s heart. It automatically‘ talks’ to the SmartView Connect bedside monitor using a Bluetooth low-energy connection. Secure outbound transmission can be done either automatically or upon request and the cellular module and SIM within the monitor authenticates the connection.
Data is encrypted in transit and matched to the correct clinical profile and once validated, stored according to regulatory compliance requirements. Raw data is then analysed and turned into clinically usable insights, which HCPs can view through a secure web portal to enable further decisions on patient follow-up.
Because patients and HCPs are often in different locations or even countries, Orange Business roaming SIMs can connect to multiple networks, giving connected, implanted devices reliable, cross-border connectivity needed for continuous monitoring. This alleviates the need for numerous routine visits to the hospital or clinic and also reassures patients that they are being monitored wherever they are.
Data sovereignty is a critical consideration for MicroPort CardioFlow because it mandates where health data is stored, processed and governed under local laws and with strict regulations.
Orange Business is committed to shaping this future by delivering secure, reliable connectivity that enables the seamless integration of AI-driven technologies. Its mission is to support more humancentric healthcare through trusted, transparent, real-time data solutions that help improve patient outcomes.
