One of the most significant areas is skills. The data centre industry already faces a widely reported talent shortage and the specialist knowledge needed to design and run quantum-ready facilities, spanning cryogenics, precision engineering and advanced power systems, is even scarcer. By involving NUS researchers and engineers directly in real-world infrastructure planning, the partnership should help build a local talent pool with hands-on experience in an emerging field.
The work is also expected to strengthen regional knowledge. Quantum infrastructure findings drawn from Singapore and Batam could fill an important gap for operators across Southeast Asia.
Finally, the project could help shape future reference architectures for the region. With no settled industry blueprint yet for housing quantum systems alongside AI and HPC workloads, early movers have an opportunity to influence how the next generation of facilities is designed, built and operated.
