ePLDT plans new data centre to support Philippines as APAC data centre hub

T announced new plans to further boost its 65 % data centre market capacity share by building its 12th data centre facility . This development was officially announced by ePLDT President and CEO , Victor S . Genuino , during his keynote presentation at the W . Media Philippines Cloud and Datacenter Convention 2023 .
Genuino said the decision to build the 12th data centre is anchored on customers ’ needs as well as its aspirations of delivering digital innovation that will bring more business value to its customers and result in inclusive economic growth . The move is also part of ePLDT ’ s vision to boost the country ’ s regional competitiveness and bring muchneeded investments .
“ We want to be able to help the Philippines be the next hyperscaler hub of Asia while continuing to support the Digital Transformation journey of different sectors locally . That ’ s why we ’ ve been investing heavily in our ecosystem to ensure that our data centres will be a crucial enabler of the country ’ s digital economy ,” said Genuino .
The data centre will have a power capacity of no less than 100MW , further fortifying the PLDT Group ’ s data centre market leadership in the Philippines while leveraging on the massive infrastructure investment of the country ’ s largest telecommunication group .
“ Historically , data centres have played a silent yet fundamental role in the digital agenda , most especially in the Philippines ,” added Genuino . “ But things are changing now . Governments and enterprises are now seeing the integral role that this industry takes on to secure our digital future .”

Japan , Equinix , a digital infrastructure company , has announced the opening of TY13x , its second Tokyobased xScale data centre .
The new facility will serve the unique core workload deployment needs of hyperscale companies , including the world ’ s largest cloud service providers .
International Data Corporation forecasts the public cloud services market in Japan will grow at a compound annual growth rate ( CAGR ) of 20.8 % from 2021 to 2026 , and that the market size in 2026 will reach ¥ 4,279.5 billion , about 2.6 times that of 2021 . The opening of TY13x is timely to support the world ’ s largest cloud service providers in delivering solutions and services that support businesses and the economy in Japan . As hyperscale companies scale their operations at Equinix , more than 10,000 customers deployed on the platform will benefit from increased opportunities to directly connect to the largest cloud service providers .
TY13x is the 12th xScale data centre opened in a global portfolio of hyperscale joint ventures that when closed and fully built out , are expected to scale to more than
US $ 8 billion of investment across 36 facilities globally with more than 720MW of power capacity .
