We take a look at this month ’ s biggest talking point for data centre leaders .

WOMEN UNITE : ADDRESSING THE INDUSTRY ’ S GENDER IMBALANCE

his month ’ s column

T is a tribute to the remarkable female panellists who participated in our Women in Data Centres digital forum discussion in June , which has now been developed into a dedicated digital supplement . Thanks to these women , we ’ ve been able to shed light on the progressive efforts towards closing the industry ’ s gender gap and foster a much-needed dialogue underpinning the change that ’ s so desperately needed .

What began as a simple idea evolved into a passion project that exceeded my expectations . A spontaneous LinkedIn post calling for women in data centres quickly gained traction and people far and wide were interested in sharing their experiences .
This overwhelming response highlighted the need for a much broader conversation , leading me to gather these women under one virtual roof . The result was a powerful and eye-opening discussion , with each speaker offering valuable perspectives and thought-provoking insights .
It was inspiring to see how passionate they were around driving change and advocating for gender equality in the industry , but this can only be actioned if we raise awareness of the industry ’ s capabilities and potential , whilst encouraging girls to take up STEM subjects at the school level .
Although our panellists stumbled upon a career in data centres , they are united in their mission to ensure future generations enter by choice and not by chance . They aim to raise awareness about the diverse opportunities in data centres and eradicate the negative language and stereotypes that have long been central to their experiences .
The panellists also emphasised the importance of men ’ s involvement in this cultural shift and shared invaluable advice for female colleagues . They encouraged women to confidently pursue their careers , trust in their abilities and block out the noise .
This project has been months in the making , but from planning to execution I feel proud to have been a part of such an enlightening discussion that contributes to keeping the wheels turning and hopefully brings about muchneeded change . I have gained a deeper understanding of the challenges these women face and am amazed by their unwavering passion and determination .
The data centre industry is fast-moving and filled with opportunities . We must harness the energy and drive of these women to enforce the change necessary for a thriving and successful future in data centres .
The panel discussion is available to watch here .
