CIRION TO EXPAND EXISTING BRAZILIAN DATA CENTRE
Ciron has acquired a 15,000-square-metre site , located adjacent to its existing high-interconnect RIO1 data centre in Rio de Janeiro , Brazil , to support the expansion of its footprint in the region .
Cirion is backed by Stonepeak , a leading alternative investment firm specialising in infrastructure and real assets with more than US $ 71.2 billion in assets under management and a broad portfolio of investments in communications and digital infrastructure globally . The new site , located in the São Cristovão neighbourhood of Rio de Janeiro , will support a RIO2 new carrier-neutral data centre installation of up to 60MW .
RIO2 will have access to a business-friendly environment and renewable energy sources , an already established ecosystem with more than 50 network and cloud providers , diverse metropolitan and long-distance connectivity with major cities and technology hubs in the region .
It will also be close to international submarine cable networks to offer minimal latency between Latin America and other regions .
It ’ s expected to be ready to enter service in 2026 , and will mark Cirion ’ s fourth data centre asset in Brazil , connecting directly to the rest of Cirion ’ s Brazilian platform via redundant dark fibre primary paths .
The Brazilian platform currently comprises three data centre campuses in São Paulo ( SAO1 ), Rio de Janeiro ( RIO1 ) and Curitiba ( CUR1 ) which are strategically located in secure and easily accessible regions and close to major business centres – enabling greater logistical and operational agility .
RIO2 will also be integrated into Cirion ’ s broader carrier-neutral platform , comprising 18 data centres across Latin America .
Datalec Precision Installations ( DPI ) – a provider of worldclass data centre design , supply , build and managed services delivering seamless and integrated end-to-end solutions for data centre operators – has announced a significant milestone in its expansion plans .
A new manufacturing facility in the United Arab Emirates ( UAE ) marks its strong commitment to the region . The dedicated 51,000-square-foot facility will produce aisle containment and security caging to DPI ’ s exacting standards .
The facility features a 450KW rooftop solar array , providing on-site renewable power . The building is strategically located near national air and sea freight infrastructure to improve project delivery lead times and reduce transportation emissions .
Most supply chain materials are also sourced locally within a 20-kilometre radius . DPI plans further investment in an in-house powder coating facility to replicate the arrangement in the company ’ s UK headquarters .
As part of DPI ’ s strategic growth , the business has further committed to the Middle East region by developing its regional team , investing and mirroring its European manufacturing capabilities in Dubai .
Fully operational by the end of summer 2024 , the new facility will also serve as its regional head office , including a marketing suite and a training room .
“ Sustainability was not just a consideration , but a key factor in our site selection ,” said Sean Christie , Projects Director for Datalec in the Middle East . “ The focus is on delivering manufactured products with an effort to reduce embodied carbon within the final products , demonstrating our commitment to environmental responsibility .”
