COLOGIX EXPANDS CENTRAL OHIO FOOTPRINT WITH LAND ACQUISITION FOR NEW AI-READY 800MW DATA CENTRE CAMPUS

Cologix , a leading network-neutral interconnection and hyperscale Edge data centre company in North America , has announced it has acquired land in Johnstown , Ohio , to develop a new , AI-ready data centre campus .

This expansion marks Cologix ’ s continued investment in Central Ohio ’ s digital infrastructure , reinforcing the region as a pivotal part of the company ’ s North American growth strategy as demand for AI , hybrid cloud and interconnection solutions accelerates .
Situated on approximately 154 acres , the plans for the new campus feature eight , AI-ready data centres when fully built out , delivering a potential 800MW of scalable capacity across two million square feet .
The new campus will support Central Ohio ’ s rapidly advancing digital economy and provide high-density , ultra-low latency and sustainable infrastructure for hyperscalers and enterprises .
Development of the first phase is anticipated to begin in 2025 .
“ As the largest provider of colocation and interconnection solutions in Columbus , we are thrilled to deepen our investment in Central Ohio ,” said Laura Ortman , CEO of Cologix . “ This new eight-data-centre campus is more than an expansion – it ’ s a testament to our commitment to high-capacity , resilient digital infrastructure that not only meets but anticipates our customers ’ evolving requirements .”
The property was acquired from Johnstown Land Company , an affiliate of New Albany Company . Cologix is collaborating with local community leaders to ensure that the development aligns with regional priorities and contributes to long-term economic and technological growth .

Data centre developers are being warned of potential longer lead times in 2025 for cooling equipment and rising copper prices . The latest Construction Market Insights Report from global consultant , Linesight , says that growth in infrastructure , industrial , energy and data centre sectors is helping to sustain momentum in the industry .

However , the report warns that supply chains will need expert management in 2025 as supplier capacity pressures could result in longer lead times for essential equipment required to cool and operate data centre facilities .
Despite pressures , the report , which draws on Linesight ’ s own market intelligence as well as internationally recognised sources of data , predicts that most countries in Europe are expected to see growth in construction output in 2025 . The exceptions are the UK and Denmark , which are expected to see a marginal decline , and Italy with a more pronounced contraction of over 8 %. This can be attributed to subdued business and consumer confidence , elevated interest rates and rising labour costs .
In the UK , data centre investment is surging because of rising global demand for processing capacity driven by AI and the government ’ s recent announcement of its intention to designate data centres as critical national infrastructure in September 2024 .
Linesight advises that maintaining strong , collaborative partnerships with suppliers will help secure a reliable supply chain , mitigate risks of disruption and enable consistent lead times .
Enhancing demand forecasts for supply chains can also mitigate the risk of capacity shortages and ensure timely access to the production line .
