BEAMA LAUNCHES DATA CENTRE LV SWITCHBOARD COMPLIANCE CAMPAIGN

As data centres face mounting pressure to deliver uninterrupted uptime, tighter regulatory compliance and increasingly complex power distribution requirements, BEAMA ' s Low Voltage Switchboard and Busbar Systems( LSBS) Group has launched a targeted safety campaign to highlight the critical importance of product conformity to BS EN IEC 61439-2 throughout the full lifecycle of Low-Voltage( LV) switchboards.

The ' Consequence of Non-Compliance ' initiative launches at a decisive moment for the data centre industry, as demand for capacity grows and the pressure to deliver reliable, safe power has never been greater. Non-conformance at any stage- from design and specification through to installation and commissioning- carries the real risks of unplanned downtime and compromised safety.
The campaign is designed to provide clear guidance to those responsible for specifying and delivering the electrical infrastructure- the foundation of data centre environments. BEAMA LSBS Group’ s goal is to ensure that BS EN IEC 61439-2 conformity is applied consistently at every stage of the switchboard lifecycle and embedded as a fundamental quality standard.
Central to the campaign is a practical, clearly designed poster developed to support on-site and project teams in implementing best practice, alongside BEAMA ' s comprehensive Guide to Verification for Low-voltage Power Switchgear and Controlgear Assemblies( PSC) in accordance with BS EN IEC 61439-2:2021- a key technical resource for anyone involved in data centre electrical design or procurement.
Nick Hayler, CEng MIET, Head of Building Electrical Systems at BEAMA, said: " Conformity is not just a regulatory requirement, it is fundamental to safety, reliability and trust across the supply chain. For data centres, where the cost of failure is measured in minutes of downtime, these implications are very real. With regulatory scrutiny increasing, systems becoming more complex and safety expectations rising, it has never been more critical to ensure that every stage of the switchboard lifecycle is fully compliant with the relevant standards.
“ Through our ' Consequence of Non-Compliance ' campaign, we aim to support the industry in prioritising best practice from the outset by providing support and resources. By promoting a culture of conformity, we are strengthening the long-term resilience, safety and quality of low-voltage switchboard systems, outcomes which will benefit data centre operators, their customers and the businesses that depend on always-on connectivity," he concluded.
Vantage will contribute to the Penjaga Gunung( Mountain Guardian) project, one of the key initiatives under the Forest Conservation Certificate( FCC) protocol managed by the Malaysia Forest Fund.
The initiative covers approximately 108,000 hectares of the Selangor Royal Heritage Forest area and engages villages from the Orang Asli community. The Penjaga Gunung project intends to foster environmental stewardship among the youth of the Orang Asli, the Indigenous people of Peninsular Malaysia, while preserving their cultural heritage and creating sustainable livelihoods for the community.

Vantage Data Centers, a leading global provider of hyperscale data centre campuses, has partnered with the Malaysia Forest Fund( MFF), an agency under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability of Malaysia( NRES). The collaboration aims to strengthen the efforts to protect and conserve Malaysia’ s forests while delivering tangible benefits to local communities in Selangor.

VANTAGE DATA CENTERS ADVANCES MALAYSIA’ S SUSTAINABILITY AGENDA
Through structured programme and certified skills development, participants will be trained to become nature guides and community rangers, enabling them to develop village-based eco-tourism and conservation services that generate long-term income streams. This new generation of forest guardians will be equipped with essential knowledge to enhance protection of Selangor’ s forest reserves and biodiversity while supporting habitat restoration to strengthen ecosystem resilience.
“ Our support for Penjaga Gunung turns conservation into high-calibre, meaningful career opportunities,” said Fitri Abdullah, Country Managing Director, Malaysia of Vantage Data Centers.“ We are shaping a future where sustainable livelihoods and professional skills development go hand in hand with protecting the planet, ensuring environmental sustainability is guided by the wisdom of protecting indigenous cultural heritage.”
